    The amount of chlorine needed to sanitize a pool as well as to 'shock' the water is intimately related to the concentration of cyanuric acid (CYA, stabilizer) in the water.     Pool Chart data added to your signature: note corrected gallons figure -- an 18x36 IG vinyl with a 3 - 9 depth is unlikely to exceed 22,000 gallons
