    Default Cloudy water after swimming???

Every time we have a decent swimmer load in the pool, the water afterwards is cloudy.

I have made sure the pool is clean & all chemicals are ok beforehand. I can vacuum the entire pool or even brush all walls & the floor of the pool before everyone swims. The water ALWAYS goes from crystal clear to cloudy after everyone finishes swimming.

It always clears up overnight with no problems.

    What could be causing this?

Before anyone asks...The chem levels before swimming last time were: (using PS233)

CYA...<20 (filled tube to 20 mark but could still barely see dot at bottom)
    FC...3
    CC...0
    TC...3
    Alk...110
    CaHard...90

The CYA levels tell the story.

CYA will hold the Cl until it is needed. At the level mentioned, the Cl will be used up rapidly, requiring lots of bleach to bring the Cl level back. The filter will then remove the "cloudy" stuff, giving you a "crystal clear" pool.

Bring the CYA level up to 50 ppm, keeping the other chemicals the same and see what happens.

Late spring = pollen. This time of year, my pool goes cloudy after people have been swimming due in part to the fact that I leave the pump off when people are in the pool and the pollen is just heavy. A few hours with the pump on clears it right up.

    Hi, Bass,

The only answer that makes sense to me is dusty guests!!

Your numbers give no clue to the problem and that it clears up overnight is good news but puzzling as well.

I would also advise you to raise your CYA into the 30-50 range but lower CYA would not seem to me the cause of your issue.

Is it possible you have some type of sediment on the bottom that is not getting vacuumed? That's my only logical thought.

Have them shower and pee before getting in the pool and see if it helps

I see the same thing if I have LOTS of kids in the pool.

I think the bather load uses up the FC, and vigorous activity tends to suspend air bubbles in the pool. A little extra FC might help hold off the cloudiness, and a shot of bleach after the swimmers are done might clear it up quicker

I don't think adding CYA will help the cloudiness, but a little bit more might reduce your chlorine costs a little.

I agree with PatL34. With that low a level of CYA in the pool the chorine is getting used up fast by the bather load. It would be interesting to check your FC and TC after swimming when the pool is cloudy....that would answer this. How do you chlorinate...Are you using bleach or do you have an automatic chlorinator (floater, feeder, swg) If chlorine is being introduced into the water it would explain why it clears overnight.

I also thought it might be some sediment on the bottom so I brushed it real good. I seen nothing coming up.

I am currently using dichlor shock & di-chlor tabs for chlorination trying to get the CYA up. I will start back on bleach once I get it up to about 40.
