DIY Composite Ladder

Hi All,

I don't like the ladder that came with my Intex 14'x48". It's not wide enough, it's unsteady, the hand rails aren't high enough..... I've been thinking about a DIY project because the "off the shelf" ladders are too much for my budget. I've thought about wood or PVC, but both are unsatisfactory. Then I remembered composite decking material might be good along along with stainless fasteners, and a rubber padded base to protect the liner.

With proper planning, a very sturdy design should be possible for about $85 in my neck of the woods.

Has anyone tried this? Do any major drawbacks come to mind? I intend to contact the producer of this material for use in a pool (the home labyrinth has 16' x 5" x 5/16" lengths for about $30).

Any comments or ideas would be appreciated.

I can't speak to your ladder plan but I use shower pan liner under my ladder (I think CarlD does too and maybe AnnaK as well). It's 40 mil thick soft sheet PVC and can be found on a roll in the tile section of your favorite big box home improvement store.
