Default Have a question about pool lights.

Neither of my pool lights seem to be working at a house I'm buying. I'm pretty sure we found the right switches (next to the working jaccuzi water-jet switch).

From what I've seen from youtube videos I can remove the light fixture from the pool without draining the water as it should have a long cord and waterproof housing. I will of course make sure the power is off even if I have to cut power to the whole house from the mains.

I thought they used a transformer to bring it down to 12 volts or whatever for safety, but I don't see one anywhere. The whole subdivision was built in 1985. They wouldn't be using a regular house 120v ac line, would they? Pretty sure everything pool related was professionally installed and not some DIY project.

Add this to the list of all the things I should have asked the previous owner.

Hi St8kout, Congrats on the new house and pool. Before you change out the bulbs, make sure the electric is working first. Most switches for pool lights, if they are near the pool or equipment pad, are protected by a GFCI outlet. Before you replace your lights, check that this is workng by plugging in a lamp or radio. If the outlet isn't functioning it's easy to replace. If the outlet isn't the problem, then I'd replace the lights. If that doesn't get them working, I'd call an electrician. Good luck.
