    Default chlorinating when on vacation

I am currently using the BBB system and has been working great, crystal clear water. My question is when I leave on vacation for 9 days what other methods can I use to keep up on the balancing of my pool? I suppose a case of beer might influence my neighbor to pour a couple of gallons of bleach into my pool.
I was wondering what others have done. Last year I came back to a greenish
tint and spent 3 weeks in the middle of summer not swimming.

The most popular response I have seen is to arrange to have someone add bleach for you. Maybe if they do it every 3 days, (and you chlorinate before you go) two visits should hold you until you get back.

The second option is tri-chlor pucks which will raise your CYA some and lower your pH. If you do this, it might be a good idea to raise the pH before you add the pucks as pH below 6.8 can cause liner damage.

There is a third option of cal-hypo (HTH Duration or Poolife Active Cleaning) capsules but you need to find the 68% concentration and even at that it seems like these don't last more than a couple of days.

While not a quick solution that's one of the things that makes an SWG so convenient. It chlorinates around the clock with no intervention. The only maintenance I do is add about a quart of acid to the pool each week to keep PH under control.
