Default New User, New Pool owner in Canada. QUESTIONS! ;)

    Hello all,

    New member here from Canada.

I recently purchased a house with an 18X36 custom shape inground saltwater pool.

I've been taught so much about this pool already, but now I'm into a problem with my cell.

Pool pilot test says the cell is an SC-36, on the label on the cell it says RC-5.

It's giving me a warning to check/clean cell, which I did, and the blades now appear clean, the previous owner hadn't done maintenance in a long time. Being in Canada, this is a seasonal pool (Late April to Late September)

After cleaning as I said, the warning persists. The pool pilot says I have 3200 PPM of salt in my pool, strips are close to that, around 3300PPM.

    Voltage @ 28V, Amps around 3.8...

By doing some reading it looks like I need a new cell. Will any SC-36 Cell work? Also, is there any benefit, or can I upgrade to a bigger cell without modifying any lines? Is there any benefit to doing so?

    Appreciate this forum existing!

    Hi,

I can't answer your questions but there are some pretty knowledgeable folks around here that can....in the meantime, you can use the google search function linked in my sig to search for other similar posts, but until your registration is upgraded you'll have to log out to read the results.

Just wanted to welcome you to the forum!

If it's a DIG-220 control panel, you can safely go to any size cell without any other modifications. The SC36 and RC5 cells are the same. Also, there are new part numbers for all the cells. RC5=SC36=RC35/22; SC48=RC42; SC60=RC52.
Once replaced, go into the installer menu and adjust the CELL TYPE to match the same model cell that you replace it with. Dont forget to replace the cell cord at the same time.

    Thanks very much!

Since this post, I tested for phosphates, they were high, so I had those taken out with Phosfree. I then added 2KG of powerchlor to shock the pool, as recommended by local pool store.

Warnings went away, chlorine level came up.

I set chlorinator to 60%, within one week chlorine was gone out of the pool... with warnings back on.

I assume the issue is a new cell is needed
