Default How do I accurately determine the height of a beaded liner for an AGP?

    Hello,
I need to get a replacement liner for a 15 x 24 oval Esther Williams pool. I was in the process of looking into a new beaded liner and realized that there are two possible height options: 48" and 52". I measured the pool wall and it is 51 5/8" high. Does this mean that I just go with a 52" liner based solely on wall height? I then measured the bead strips that fit over the top of the wall and there is almost 1 5/8" of drop from the top of the pool wall to where the liner actually sits. Subtracting that will bring it down to 50". If I then subtract 2" for the sand base that brings it down to 48". So, do I need a 48" liner or a 52" liner? I am new to above ground pool ownership and do not want to order the wrong height.

    Thanks for any help given!

That's a question for either Pooldoc or Waste--and I'll alert both to come take a look and see what help they can give..

    Welcome to The Forum!

You want the 52" liner. The manufacturer makes it smaller than the actual pool measurements because it's supposed to stretch into the pool. If they didn't, all liner pools would be full of wrinkles. If you went with the 48", you'd probably rip the receiving track off of the wall before the water level reached the return.

It sounds like you've got a "J-Hook" style bead, double check and make sure you get the right bead for your receiver (there are 4 different types that I know of and the bead must be the right type for the receiver you have). The manufacturer takes into consideration the receiver offset.

If you want to discuss this more, or bounce what you're planning off me, I'm here almost every night and will gladly share my knowledge and experience with you.

Thanks for the height clarification. My bead is not the J hook type; it is a fatter version of the standard bead that was apparently used for the Esther Williams and Johnny Weissmuller pools that were made by Delair group LLC. They sold the pool portion of their holdings somewhere around 2010, I think. I did not want to purchase the wrong size liner and have too much or too little material to deal with! My sister gave me the pool and I relocated it last weekend. I am cleaning up all of the components and still deciding on the location. I figured that I wanted to get the liner ordered so that it would be here when I need it. Thanks again!
