Default 15ft Round pool with 1.5hp pump

    Hi, I have a 15ft round pool 52" depth. I have a Doughboy Silica II filter(130lbs sand). I also have a Hayward Power-Flo LX 1.5hp pump ... 70gpm).

From what I'm reading, the pump is too big. What would be a good pump (correct size) to replace it with?

    Thanks
    Joe

If it's available, a 3/4 HP 2-speed. It runs on 1/4 of its power on the low speed, very efficient, low cost, effective. If that's not available I'd go with a 1/2 HP. Your pool holds approximately 5,500 gallons. Mine is 12.5 K gallons and I have a 200# sand filter and a 1 HP pump which I run on low speed for 6 hours out of 24 and that is plenty.

    JMO. I could be wrong

I think a 1/2hp pump would be plenty.

We have a 3/4 horse pump/filter "Package" by Intex that takes 75 lbs silica sand. Our pool is 15' X 48" and I'm going to have to restrict the flow going into pump, It pushes water out of the pool inlet too hard and fast. If I had it to do again, I'd go with a half horse pump.
