Question Sand Filter Starts - Emits White Cloud

Having a problem I've never noticed before. Every time I start up my sand filter, it emits a white cloud. Then, the outbput from the filter clears up. The pool then gets a little cloudier for a couple of hours before it is clean again. Doesn't matter whether its turned to waste or if I've just rinsed it, it always does the same thing once I go back to filter.

    Thoughts anyone? Should I backwash?

Sometimes the white cloud can be an air leak and what you're seeing is bubbles...and sometimes the cloud can be sand or zeo from your filter. HOwever, when I've had gasket problems and zeo being emitted, it is usually brown, not white. If it's sand, then you either have a lateral problem or possibly need to change your multiport gasket.

Try backwashing and rinsing first, then see if you can identify whether it's bubbles or filter stuff....

Backwash seemed to have helped. Had a lot of gunk in that filter and water seemed clear when I re-started the pump.

I'll keep monitoring it over the next couple of days.

Just a reminder to anybody reading this thread -- always rinse for 20 or 30 seconds after backwashing before putting it back on filter.
