Default Hello ! New member here. I want to add color lights to my pool.

I have a 2 y.o. salt water pool with Pentair Easy Touch panel (and remote). I would like to look into replacing my pool and spa lights with the Pentair Intellibright lights. Going through the pool company the price is $3K ($1K /light ). I have a guy that can do it "on the side", however, I want to educate myself first.

Is this posssible? AFAIK, the j box by the pool that powers the lights just has copper conductors. How will the panel know there are intellibright lights connected. We did some reading and it seems that the lights have a circuit board and the panel pulses the lights cycling the LEDs.

I just want to make sure it will work before I break out the wallet.

You may want to ask at PoolSpaForum -- they have lots of members in the pool business, so the sales BS level tends to be pretty high. But the only type of people likely to have the sort of info you want is someone who regularly installs such equipment. Waterbear, who posts here regularly, is a mod there, so if you think you're getting bogus info there, you could ask him here.

However, a major caution: I know that here in my local area, electronic pool equipment is regularly installed by guys who barely understand which end of an extension cord goes into the socket, and who have NO idea what the difference between 120 and 240V really is. What that boils down to, is that many installers can follow the manual, but when someone asks an 'off-manual' question like yours, there's no telling how they will answer, except to say that their answer is unlikely to be knowledge-based. It's possible your local installers are a step up from the ones I encounter here, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Thanks Ben ! Great info. I will check over there. I will also be very careful about who I get to install it.
