This is my 3rd year with the pool and by far the most frustrating. I can't tell you how much money I've spent trying to get it right only for it to look like it did before I started dumping stuff in.
I live in central NY and the pool gets sunlight from 8 am until 8pm. Its a mountain lake shape and holds approximately 24,000 gallons. I have a salt system and as of today have only used strips for water chemistry and took a sample once a few weeks ago to my dealer which really didn't do much.
Today I checked the chlorine with the strip and it read 0. My salt system was reading add 160lbs so I went to the store and got the salt and 5 gallons of liquid chlorine and dumped it all in.
I have been brushing more than once a day and usually vacuum in the morning. The water never seems to be crystal clear and when I brush I always seem to get the green cloud as the brush moves across the floor.
The guy at the store said the one 5 gallon jug should be good to shock my pool. I said it was reading 0 so wouldn't the one jug just bring it to normal and I should do two and he said no. So I'm a little confused on the whole shock thing. It was 12.99 for 5 gallons. Is this a good price or should I buy bleach from the store and what kind?
Anyways I know I need a good test kit and post some results, so can someone post a link to the ones on amazon so I can support the forum.
Is there anything I can do while I wait for the kit?
My latest readings, from a strip, I know but better than nothing:
FC: 3/6 Bromine
PH: maybe 7.8 or higher
Alklinity seems fine between 80-120
Hardness seems around 200
CYA 30-50
