    Hi!

Two questions--what do you mean by "sanitizer", since the sanitizer is the chlorine, and what is your CYA level? In order to kill off the algae, you must raise your chlorine to shock level, which is based on your CYA level, and hold it there until the green clears and you can go from sundown one night to sunup the next morning without losing more than 1 ppm of chlorine. This usually takes a few days, and you'll need to test/add more chlorine as many times a day as possible to maintain that shock chlorine level. Only then can you let the chlorine come back down, but what range you have to keep it in again will depend on your CYA level. Take a look at the best guess chlorine chart linked in my sig for a better explantion and the chart.

    Welcome to the forum!!

If you'll fill out the pool chart form, we'll be able to answer better:

Meanwhile, a good start would be adding 7 gallons of PLAIN 6% household bleach to your pool each evening, until the water changes from green to gray or bluish (still cloudy). The first evening AFTER it changes color, add the bleach and then brush the pool completely.

More . . . once you get your pool data posted. Say so, here, when you do so I'll be notified.
