I have just a 5 way test kit from walmart. I am opening my pool. all my chems were right except for cya, which i fixed. Well 3 days later my ph dropped to like the lowest reading on the test tube thinggy. (water cloudy this whole time also) so i added just like 18 0z of ph + rechecked...no change in ph, but of course alk was up...went from 100 to 150. I didnt think that was a big deal, but the chlorine reading is like almost Orange! so way high. I decided to just take some water to the pool place, to have a test run.
this is what they gave me:
AG pool - 15,000 gal
temp: 70
saturation index: -0.9
TDS: 325
CYA: 150
Tot. Chlorine: 9.8
free chlorine: 8.9
ph: 7.1
Tot Alk: 135
Adj total alk: 90
tot Hardness: 114
Now this is what they told me to do:
Add 14 lbs of alk+ slowly
then 5 lbs of calcium hardness
then 4 lbs of shock
and then clarify.
Ok I am a bit confused.... I went on and added 4 lbs of alk+ waited 4 hrs, rechecked..of course alk goes up, and ph is about 7.4 now. So i added the 4lbs of shock. I am a lil leary this was not the right thing to do. The last 3 yrs i was proud..i used my own test kit and got the pool up and running by myself, but this yr i was at a loss.
I guess i am just looking for some reassurance that i havent totally messed up or what i can do, if i have messed up, to fix it, lol.
the pool lady said my testing may have been false, i dunno.
I also use a stablized chlorinator floater, i pulled it out immediately until i figure out what is goin on.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks so much.
edit: this was a BioGuard lab...uggg wish i had found you guys and read the "start up woes" thread before all this mess lol.....ahh well..i know now for next year :O)
