Default Do I have too much pump for the pool...

16x32 in ground vinyl liner, about 20,000 gallons, no water features/spa, just a pool. 1 skimmer, 2 returns, pumphouse at same level as pool, about 5 feet from shallow end of pool

When they built/installed pool in 1998 they installed a PacFab (Pentair) Challenger 1 hp (1.25SF) single speed pump.

It's still running strong but I'm wondering if it's too much pump (300# Hayward sand filter) for the pool. Everywhere I've read a blurb/info about this pump it always mentions 'High Flow' i.e. "Excellent high pressure performance for all types of demanding installations".

Is it too much? I wouldn't think my little pool is a 'demanding installation'. Pool has always performed/maintained well with this pump, only complaint is that it is somewhat loud compared to other pumps I have come in contact with. Oh, and it's generally in the $400+ range when I have to replace.

Turnover rate w/ 60' of head is :

    19,080 gallons - 6hrs
    25,440 gallons - 8hrs
    31,800 gallons - 10hrs

    What say ye?

You have a 1 HP up rated pump so no, I don't think it is too big.
