Best way to add some quick chlorine without adding CYA?
Is there a product I can keep on hand to add some quick chlorine to the pool that's safe to use and won't increase my CYA level? I use trichlor tabs in an in-line feeder and my CYA was 80 as of June 9. Occasionally, the water test comes back with a lower level of chlorine than I want and I'd like to quickly bring it up (the feeder will take a while to accomplish this).
I had previously purchased a case of powder Shock Plus bags at Costco which are Aqua Chem brand (58% sodium dichloro-s-triazinetrione). I don't always have liquid chlorine or bleach on hand and my experience has been that it's sometimes degraded in this neck of the woods or Wal-Mart is simply out of stock.
I've been testing the water over the past few weeks with my Taylor K-2006 and I have read and re-read the little manual that came with the kit and want to run this question past some experts. Can I use bags of cal hypo by adding to water (or dissolving then adding to water) without taking my trichlor tabs out of my feeder (SO LONG as I don't pour the stuff in near the skimmer)? What other product choices are there and where do I find them?
