Default pump trips ground fault breaker..

Hi My pump was working fine, then had ythe filter aprt for a few days an cleaned it. when I put it back ogether my gfi now trips when I try to start the pool. Took the pump out and connected it to a none 20 amp circuit an it works fine.

if I leave it on the gfi circuit and reset the break 3-4 times real quick the pumps starts an runs ok.. I think the capacitor is bad. Does the nmake sense?

if so does anyone know where I can get a capictor for a Hayward model C48J2N131 pump?

    Thanks

First, did you check that the pump is grounded properly? Use an Ohm meter if you have one. A faulty ground will trip a GFI.

Also, I am actually surprised the pump is on a GFI. I thought GFIs were only used for pool lights and outlets near the pool and all other equipment is just grounded. Is your pool very close to the pad?

If it runs fine on another circuit, its not necessarily the capacitor.

Do you have anything else upstream or downstream from the GFCI? I had an issue a couple seasons ago with a corroded outlet (by the pool equipment) causing my GFCI breaker to trip. Replaced the outlet and everything was fixed (almost same as you.....pump would run for an unspecific amount of time after flicking the breaker a couple times). Also, Ive heard that you cant just flick a GFCI breaker back on. You should actually press the test button (which *completely* turns it off) and then flick it back on.
