Last night, just before adding POLY-Q, I poured in enough 6% bleach to bring FC level to about 9. This morning.. checked FC.. it's at 8. So POLY-Q didn't eat too much overnight. I will dose with a little more bleach before going to work.. just to make sure I don't fall too low with the daytime sun.

CLOUDY: I am pretty sure the PQ is doing something.. I ran the pump on recirculate for a few hours (after adding). Been running on "filter" for about 8-9 hours. The water is clearer than last night. I am hoping for more improvement when I get home from work tonight. Maybe we can close this thread,.. finally. I will let you know.

(by the way.. had to buy POLY-Q at pool store.. $23 for a quart)

Yes, please do let us know how it works. And, continue to keep an eye on your chlorine levels.

Came home tonight.. pool water is even better. I know there isn't a silver bullet to solve all problems.. it's doing all the things right,.. but I am impressed with the POLY-Q. Since adding PQ 24 hours ago.. the difference is dramatic. It isn't "crystal".. but it's pretty damn clear! Might be "crystal" clear tomorrow. I put a skimmer sock back in.. that usually polishes the water some.

Also.. I noticed that the PQ didn't seem to eat the bleach as much as I thought it would.

One question.. if the water doesn't become any clearer tomorrow.. would it help to add any additional PQ? Or is there a limit as to how it can act as a clarifier?

It's my understanding that polyquat will continue to act as a clarifier even in fairly clear water.

I know this has been a long thread.. but I did want to post an end result update.. So maybe others will be able to see how BBB, patience, trying the ideas found here... and working at it ..will eventually pay off.

    todays readings:
    FC 6
    CC 0
    pH 7.4
    Alk 90
    CYA little over 20.

Because of the cloudy water before.. I believe (in previous posts) I was getting an untrue CYA reading. I might try and bring that up closer to the 40-50 range. I am burning up too much bleach too fast.. on sunny days. I usually add a 96 ounce jug of 6%.. every other evening.. but this year its been every evening. ( 24 X 4.5 AG round = 13500 to 14000 gallons ).

What is your experience with adding bleach? every day? twice week? etc?

Finally.. thanks to everyone.. your suggestions and comments are appreciated..

Here's a couple of pics taken this morning.. just to show clarity. Compare them with pics at the beginning of the thread.

Your water looks great! So glad you shared the pics and really glad that you finally got it cleared up.

I agree with bumping your CYA up to 40 or 50. In my pool, I typically add bleach every other day but sometimes daily. Depends on how many people have been swimming, or if there have been storms dropping debris in the pool or how hot and sunny it has been.

Wondering -- did you add more than one dose of the Polyquat or just the one?

I only added the one dose (14 ounces). The water cleared even more the 2nd day.

Glad I didn't add more.. two reasons:
I don't like putting much of anything, other than bleach in my water..
and.. PQ is about 70 cents an ounce.. I still have more than half a quart left (in case I need it next spring).
