Default When you plug in the vacuum...

Do you need to shut off the pump when you insert the fitting of the vacuum into the skimmer? I've always done it, but my husband is vacuuming our AG pool for the first time and asked if this was really necessary and I had to wonder. Can you just slip the hose in gently without turning off the pump?

I never turn my pump off when I attach the hose to the skimmer

SA, As he Idiot said (I love that under name), no need to shut down the pump, but you should fill the vac hose with water before connecting it. The easiest way to do that is to hold one end over a return jet until you've pushed the air out.
