Finally I have figured out how to post. I have been reading, reading, and reading in order to understand this pool buisness. I have just purchased a 33' above ground pool and am getting anxious. Have I chosen the best spot? Will my well run dry from all the water demand? Will I be able to manage the water chemistry the right way? I have purchased the test kit on this site. I hope it will get here by the time I have the pool set up. I will test the water and post on this site for help. I am soooo glad I have somewhere to turn for help. Any advise will be appreciated. I have copied the post on the basics of water chemicals which I believe will be a BIG help. Thanks, Sharon

You will congratulate yourself over and over for having purchased the test kit......it will do more to help you than anything else you buy for your pool.

Here's a heads-up. Well water and swimming pools are a frequent source of problems. Price doing your initial fill from hauled in water. If you can stand the price, I would do it. You should have no problem with refills from your well during the Summer...it won;t be that much.

Well water is infamous for having a very high iron content. Yours may not but that's one of the few things that your new kit will not test. If you need to use your well, get a sample of it and go to a pool store that can test for iron....if you have what they consider is a lot of iron, I would forgo the fill from the well and get it hauled in. Very cheap some places...others not.

Thanks alot for that information! I will try to have my water tested. When I mentioned that to the guy at the pool store( I said to pay the fire dept. to bring a load of water) He said it wasn't a good idea as the water may be dirty. Where else would one get water like that? Thanks, Sharon

I called the city water utility and they gave me the name of a company that hauled water. The pool store guy is in error about dirty water but, that said, I doubt fire dept's do that anymore....phone calls never hurt, however.
