Default Trichlor tabs and a general hello

Wow! This site is amazing! It would have been nice to find it when we first bought our house with the pool four years ago, or even before yesterday when we just payed another $100+ for dichlor.

My "getting started" questions is for more info on trichlor tabs. Are they useful and necessary? We also have several buckets on hand of these, so will they at least not hurt anything if I use them up?

Thanks for all the helpful information!

I can't really answer your question without seeing a current set of water testing results. Do you have a good test kit? Do you know what your CYA level is?

Hi, and welcome to the forum!!

The trichlor tabs are going to do essentially the same thing as your dichlor does--adds chlorine, pushes pH down, and adds CYA. They are not necessary, but if used correctly, they do have their place in pool care. However, as Watermom said, without seeing numbers for CYA, pH, and chlorine, we really can't tell you if they will hurt anything or not--same with your dichlor.
