    If you have a WalMart nearby that sells the hth 6-way drop kit, it has the CYA test in it...basically you add equal parts of your pool water and a melamine-based reagent, shake them well to mix, then pour the solution into a marked graduated tube that has a black dot on the bottom. When the black dot is obscured, you can read the CYA level on the side of the test tube.

    The K-2006 kit also contains the CYA test, and there is also standalone test for it...check the test kit link in my sig for the Taylor K-1721
