Newbie here, installing a new liner on above ground pool

Hi,

Just wanted to get some advice from people who have installed a new liner on an above ground pool.

I bought my current house in 2007 from my father-in-law. The house has a 24' Johnny Weissmuller-48" deep above ground pool.

Back around 2006, I helped him replace the pool liner. All I remember having to do was get a pick-up truck full of sand, and the liner.

Well fast-forward to 2012, and the liner obviously has a leak, as the water level was under 1' when I took the cover off. Plus the liner has a lot of wrinkles and is stained a bit.

I just wanted to know which option is best for making a cove as well as the surface on the floor under the liner.

I've seen that foam coves as well as foam padding for the floor are available. I don't mind if it costs a bit more for foam, just want the best quality to last for more than 6 years. Anyone have any advice on which is better?

Would I have to remove the existing sand that is in-place if I wanted to use foam?

My pool was just replaced. Previously I had sand coves built up but went with foam coves this time. They simply raked the sand and leveled it out. I also have padding under the pool (happy bottom). I have always had padding of some sort under the bottom of the liner each time liners have been installed. The padding is simply installed over the sand base.
