Solar cover doesn't allow for good filtering

I put on my solar cover yesterday and the water is warming up finally! Only problem, I had some debris on the surface of the water, and now that the solar cover is on, it seems like the stuff sitting on the top doesn't move around enough to get to the skimmer. I basically stays stuck under the cover. Is this normal? Should I only put the cover on under clean water surface conditions?

A well fitting solar cover adheres to the water surface so yes, floating debris will be trapped. You could skim the surface manually before putting the cover on.

Thanks. It was a little large and I had to trim it down. It's well fitting now. Only problem now is that the surface of the cover at night looks like it's quickly becoming a mosquito breeding hotspot. Yikes! I'm going to try to hit the yard with some chemicals, and also hook up my mosquito magnet otherwise we'll be getting eaten alive this year.

This is a solar cover that looks like bubble wrap, right? It goes on with the bubbles facing the water. I haven't noticed a problem with standing water on ours for mosquitoes to breed in but then, we cut ours into sections to make it easier to put on and take off. We used to do sheep herding in MA–you folks do have a good crop of jet-sized mosquitoes up there !

Right. It's been a very rainy May so that probably has a lot to do with it.
