Default Hot tub causes light short

I have noticed that my gfci outlet has been tripping and I couldn't figure out why. This outlet is connected to my landscaping light controller as well as my pool timers and accesories. Everything seems to work just fine when I turn the waterfall on and/or the pool light. But as soon as I turn on the hot tub light the outlet on the side of the main pool switches trips and none of the accessories work. So I have to reset the outlet. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

This is absolutely NOT my department so I can't help you with it at all. Today is a little slow around the forum so it may be awhile til someone comes along who can help, but sit tight and hopefully you'll be able to get some help.

You have a short to ground somewhere in your hot tub light circuit.

You need to find an electrician who works on pools to help you find and correct this potentially hazardous condition.

GFCI especially GFCI Outlets (this is how your circuit is protected) can fail closed, meaning the Ground Fault Circuit Interruption circuit stops working but power still passes through the outlet and to the downstream load. If this happens, the short in your hot tub circuit could find a path through a swimmer.
