    Default Pump sizes

I'm curious. Why are lower HP pumps more expensive than higher HP pumps?

First, you need to be careful when comparing pump prices with the nameplate HP. For example, within the same pump line, a 3/4 HP full rated pump (high service factor) is actually the same pump as a 1 HP up rated pump (low service factor). The nameplate HP may be different on each pump but the total HP (THP) is the same for both pumps and their head curves are the same. However, this doesn't mean the pricing has to be the same. Often times the up rated pump has a lower price. In general though, the cost of manufacturing a higher THP pump should be higher but supply and demand market forces will influence the price as well.
