    Arrow In-ground Pool Restoration

My parents have an in-ground pool that they want to restore to its former glory. It's in a sad state of affairs right now for sure. At this point the pool is about 14 years old, and it looks like this:

They haven't gotten any quotes yet, and I know these images don't tell you everything about what needs to be done, but I'm just curious on what people's thoughts are on this project. How much could this potentially cost to restore based on these images? What sorts of things should they look out for when receiving a quote? Is it better to purchase a liner separate from installation?

If there's any information that would be important, just let me know. Thanks.

There are others with much more knowledge than I regarding restoration that will be along shortly to offer advice, I think....but the thing that immediately comes to mind is the equipment--i.e. motor, pump, filter, etc. can you take pics of that and send them, also? Do you know if they work? Do you know the volume of the pool, or can you include measurements to help calculate it?

Just my $0.02 about the liner--if you have someone in the area that has good references, I would DEFINITELY do the liner and installation as a package. There are folks that install their own liners, but after watching mine being done a couple of summers ago, it's not something I would ever attempt. Besides, most installers warranty their work, which is an important thing to me.

    Welcome to the Forum!

The pool doesn't look to be in very bad shape

As long as the walls, floor and steps are sound (as well as the piping and filter equipment) this could run anywhere from $4000 to $8000, depending on your location and how much work needs to be done to make the pool 'new'.

I would have anyone giving you a quote, check the stair faceplates and gaskets, give an appraisal of the wall condition and the floor's condition. They should also measure the pool to insure that the new liner fits correctly! Before they drop the new liner, the lines should be pressure tested, it's better to fix plumbing issues before the new liner goes in.

I've done this more times than I can count. Get some quotes and run them by us and I'll tell you what to look for and watch out for.

Thanks for the responses. Here are some photos of the filter equipment:

And here's part of the receipt which shows some of the measurements and details. I believe the deep-end is 12 feet.

I'll get some quotes soon. Thanks again. :-)

It's been a year since I made this thread! The information/situation is still pretty much the same. The price seems to be about $4100 to patch the pool and install a new liner (including the cost of the liner itself). Since the current liner, he can't actually see what the cement looks like around the pool. Is that a reasonable price?
