    Default Genuine Jandy vs. Generic

I am having a minor dispute with my pool guy. I need to know if it's worth escalating to a big deal. He says the plan for "Jandy" valves used the term like kleenex; I think it means genuine Jandy brand neverlube valves.

Does it matter? What brands would you accept? Thanks!

If you have a contract or verbal agreement that says Jandy valves then the pool company should install Jandy valves. In my own opinion I think Jandy and Compool valves are the best but there are other valves that I have not tried. The term Jandy valve means Jandy valve and nothing else.

Actually, you might have a Jandy valve and it won't say Jandy anwhere on it. Waterpik Technoligies owns Jandy and I've started seeing valves with the Waterpik brand on them. I even have one in my pool plumbing.

I think if your contract calls for a Jandy NEVERLUBE, get the neverlube. They are more expensive than a standard valve because of the diverter gasket within the valve that does not require lubricant...it's impregnated with special "stuff".
However, a Jandy valve is a Jandy valve. They have years of quality built into their valves. Any of the other brand named valves (compool, pentair, mark urban) would be considered "In Like Kind" as the guvment officials like to call them. Avoid the generic valves that are smaller, thinner walled, flimsy handles and shafts...basically the cheap imported stuff.
Gaskets, o-rings, shaft seals, etc will always be available for the Jandy valve, as well as the other brand name valves.
    just food for thought

While I don't have any Jandy valves, I would not accept that "Jandy" just means a ball valve. To me, a Jandy is specifically a high-quality valve that is designed to be operated either manually or with a Jandy servo by remote control.
