Default Proper way to partially drain my pool

I have the dreaded 'way too much CYA' problem. CYA level is too high for the test in the K-2006 kit to measure. I have switched to Bleach and am keeping the Chlorine level between 8 and 15 ppm as suggested. Now I need to take the next step and replace some of the water. In-ground pool with a DE filter. Is it as simple as shutting off the skimmers and running the main valve in the backwash setting?

    Thanks in advance.

Yup. Or you can even use the waste setting. It's just that simple. I did that at closing because I had to replace some fixtures and add a patch. Left just over a foot in my shallow end. We've had a lot of rain but I haven't checked how much has been added.

Just be sure you cannot suck air from fittings above the water line.
