    Default winterizing inground pool

Should I leave my thermal blanket under my safety cover during winter to slow the growth of algae?

Assuming you are talking about the 'bubble wrap' type covers, I'm not sure whether that would slow algal growth or not -- initially, it would tend to keep the pool water warmer, which would favor algae.

But, it might restrict enough light to reduce algae -- I just don't know.

If you want to experiment, I don't think you'll damage anything other than the solar cover.

No. All you'll do is ruin the cover, especially if you have freezing in your area. You need to take it off, dry it, and store it, preferably in a basement. I find no matter whether I buy cheap ones or expensive ones, they fall apart in 3 years. Just trashed my 3rd one in 9 years...
