Re: Pump run time for Salt Generator
If the generator is sized properly for your pool and not undersized then your pump run time should be the same as without a SWCG. If you cell in undersized you will need to run it longer and probably have to run the cell at 100% output. (Amount of chlorine generated is determined by how long the cell is on during the time the pump is running. Your output percentage is the percent of total pump run time that the cell is on and generating chlorine. For example, if your pump runtime is 8 hours and your cell output percentage is 40% then your cell is actually only on and generating for 3.2 during that 8 hour period hours which is 40% of 8 hours). Different manufacturers have different time periods for switching the cell on and off (and reversing cell polarity for self cleaning units). For example, Goldline (Hayward) uses a 100 minute period so if the cell output is at 40 % the cell is on for 40 minutes and off for 60, reverses polarity, and then repeats this cycle.
