    Default Trichlor Feeder

So from everything I have read on the forums, and my own experience over the last 3 weeks, I am thinking I should just discontinue using this contraption and stick with 10% sanitizer or just plain bleach. That way I don't have to worry about rising CYA levels and I actually know what was added to the pool.

Is there some reason that I should want to keep using the trichlor feeder that I am missing? If so I will spend some time figuring out how to set the erosion rate properly. It just seems like so much more work than added some liquid now and then.

    Regards,

    Hi Red,

I have an inline trichlor feeder that I use at the beginning of the season and when we go on vacation. It holds 7 pucks. At startup in May I run it at 1/2 strength to get CYA into the water. It takes a long time to raise CYA from 0 to 50 ppm this way and I always have to add granular CYA to get to the level I like. Then I turn the feeder off and use 10% LC. When we go on vacation I run the feeder again at 1/4. By then, I'm no longer concerned about the CYA getting too high because in my pool it usually drops to zero over winter.

I have an awful lot of splashout and replace probably 1/3 of the volume each year. From my experience over the past 7 years I could probably go with trichlor all season. I choose not to because it's much less expensive to get liquid chlorine and it's much easier to calculate dosage for the level I like.
