While I was away I got a call that my pool was leaking. My neighbor who lives on the hillside below me found water trickling into a puddle next to his house. We shut down the system and I came home early. By the time I got back all was dry. The leak didn't return until we started the system back up.
We are in the middle of using Fix-A-Leak now. We don't know for sure where the leak is occurring. There's no air visible in the return, so logically we don't think its in the suction line, but it even so, just by looking it appears that the leak is probably at the bottom of the 50-year-old in-ground skimmer. Bubbles could be being filtered out at the pump if its a small leak. We're in the "hoping-it-works" phase, having run the system for about 2 and a half days and have now shut it off to let the Fix-A-Leak set.
If it doesn't work I'll be trying to figure out a budget way to bypass the old skimmer.
