Default cartridge filter advise vacuum to waste

i have a hayward cc 1000 filter cartridge system for my 24 round above ground pool.i recently read an article advising putting a a line into the drain port with a ball valve, so that you can bypass the filter when you are vacuuming the pool to waste. this sounds like a good idea to me because it would give me the option of having the vacuumed water not go into my filter cartridge particularly when there is a lot of dirt or debris in the pool.i could simply have the water going into my lawn or my gutter drain tile while i am vacuuming the dirtiest parts. could you please tell me the best way to do this ? would i put a t ball valve at the end of the hose that connects to my pumps intake? do they make such t valves? i am looking for what type of hardware i would need and where to install it , thanks paul

    Welcome to the forum.
Probably the easiest and cheapest is to use a couple plain Jane ball valves from Home Depot, Lowes, etc. Put a PVC Tee ahead of the filter, ater the pump, and a ball valve in each leg. To dump to the lawn just close the filter valve and open the dump valve. They do make multi-port valves for this purpose but they are sort of specialty items and not found in home improvement stores. Thus more $$$. Once this thread gets into the general forum population someone else may comment on the cost of these multi-port valves.
