    Default PH Question

Pool is 95% full (just below skimmer) and have not added any chemicals yet. (will start adding bleach today to bring chlorine levels up) and will add CYA as soon as I can backwash pump and begin pump operations. We did test the Ph today and it was above 8.0 .. I read where CYA will lower the Ph, so should I allow the CYA to act before I decide to add any Muriatic acid to lower the Ph.

I purchased a test kit from a pool store, which had their label on it, but all of the drop vials are labeled Taylor and it looks identical to the Taylor 2006 kit.

So... My question is simply... Do I need to wait to see if the CYA lowers the Ph before I add any muriatic acid?

    Thanks....

I would go ahead and lower the pH some with muriatic acid. I never find that the CYA affects my pH much at all. Please read this following guide. If you can't access it, log out first and then try again. Using Muriatic Acid Safely

Is this a new pool? Why do you need to backwash?

Regarding your test kit --- does it have FAS-DPD powder in it?

Yes. It is a brand new pool and I was instructed to backwash

Just to make sure I'm doing everything right, here are my values and actions. I haven't done anything yet..

FC 0. Will add 297 ounces of bleach
Ph above 8. Will add 5.4 ounces of Muriatic acid
CYA 0. Will add 134 ounces immediately in a sock

Does this look okay? I will let the pump run 24/7 for at least 5 days and add chlorine (bleach) two times a day based on the test

25000 gallons according to the store. 28800 according to the pool calculator. Also, TA was 90. Added 5 ounces of Muriatic acid, but haven't retested yet

Your amounts for bleach and CYA are fine.
