Should I lower my alkalinity?

From reading here I know that lowering alk can be a real pain. Is it necessary in my situation? I have an AG 30' X 52" pool w/vinyl liner that was filled for the first time two weeks ago. I think my volume is around 17000 gal. Please correct me if that sounds way off. My numbers are as follows:

FC 5.5
CC 0
TC 5.5
PH 7.6
ALK 240
CAL 130
CYA 35

It seems to me that most of my numbers are pretty good except that the cal and alk are pretty high.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, your alkalinity is high, and you can follow the procedures from the "Sticky" thread at the beginning of this forum. Your CH is not that high for a vinyl pool.

I would lower T/A when it's that high, even in vinyl. Target 80-125, but in vinyl, anything below 180 is just fine. So if you hit say, 140, you can stop and enjoy your pool.

21,000 gallons in your pool. assuming 4' depth of the water.

Thanks for all your help. What are the consequences of leaving my alk at 240. As I understand it, it will help my pH stay steady but there must be other issues. I'm new to this pool stuff but this site is a great way to learn and all of you are great help and I appreciate all your input.
