    Default Inground pool light question

I have my pool light out of its niche right now because it was filled with water and would trip the breaker. I need a new gasket for it. I have a quick question though. Is there supposed to be caulk or something around the wire where it goes out the back of the niche? I have my pool partially drained right now and can look back in there. The opening in the back of the niche where the wire goes through is larger than the wire and it appears that there should be some caulk or something to fill that gap. Thanks.

Unless there is a leak in the conduit, there is no need for any kind of sealant on the conduit inside the niche. Generally, if you find anything like caulk in the conduit, it will be epoxy. I deal with this all the time when trying to replace a light. Most of the time I have had to drain the pool in order to carefully drill the epoxy out with out damaging the conduit so that a new light can be pulled through. If the pool doesn't leak, don't put anything there.

Thanks....when I get a new gasket for my light, am I supposed to use any caulk, gasket sealant or lube on the new gasket to help it seal better?
