    Default Cyanuric Acid Test Reagent

My Taylor K-2006 test kit was purchased several years ago. Would the cyanuric acid reagent still be good? The kit was stored outside all winter. Just did a reading and it showed no stabilizer. Last season I used bleach and no tabs or granular, but I did use a few tabs and some granular packets this spring trying to clean up the almost brown water filled with leaf debris. It's a 25,000 gallon in ground pool.

It's hard to say....it is not unusual for it to show no stabilizer if the level is less than 30 ppm, and it tdoesn't sounds like you've used enough stabilized chlorine this year so far to get that high.

I usually store my reagent in a dark cabinet in my laundry room and it stays good for at least 2-3 years, but outside there may have been enough temperature difference to leave it unuseable.

What was your CYA reading at the end of last season?

I'm with Jan: Protect your tools and your test kit is your most important tool.
Keep it cool, not cold, dry and out of sunlight.

Of course, you can replace the reagents. I have refills of just about everything....except maybe the calcium test dye (I only test my vinyl pool's calcium once or twice a season, just to make sure it's low).
