    Default swg and shock

I'm in South Florida and a new pool .... I read that its better to use shock instead of SWG since its better for the cell...

    questions...

What brand of shock do you use?
    how often?

    29x14 IG w/spa about 10500 gallons

I use Kroger or Purex, whichever is on sale. Also Dollar General. Most people here use bleach for shock. Shock when your combined chlorine reading exceeds 0.5ppm. Usually 2 or 3 times a year for me.

I use the "best guess" chart for Cl residual vs. CYA to know when to shock.

If I need to shock, like this weekend after a pool party with several toddlers and young kids , I use regular bleach.

My TC went down about 5 points over night into the low range for me (100 CYA), but I still didn't have any CC. That's one of the things I love about the SWC. I just needed the bleach to bring my Cl quickly up to the neccesary range.

I keep a couple of bags of Super Sock-It (Cal-Hypo) on hand for the rare times I need to shock. Good shelf life and easy to store.
