Bella's thread--question about DE filter

I just joined the forum today based on PoolDocs previous replies to others, you seem very helpful and now I am worried I won't get my answer... I hope you keep sharing your knowledge and experience for lost "pool-patients" as myself. If anyone else reads this maybe you can help? I bought a home with an older DE filter with a bottom manifold.
There are 8 filter grids each being about 36in tall. I wanted to ask, mainly about the safest method of opening the tank? I have other questions about water pressure, but that can wait.

I moved your post into this forum for now because that's where all the new user's posts end up first, and I'm not sure if Ben has updated your "powers" to see the other forums yet.
