I have an older Hayward pool pump and I have a problem removing the strainer cover. Even with the pump off, there appears to be so much pressure coming from somewhere, that the strainer cover is literally "sucked" on so tightly that I cannot turn it. When I am finally able to get the strainer cover off, the o-ring has been stretched so much that is unusable. The lid can only be put on one way -- turning it around until it slides into the plastic "rim" that holds it in place My problem is that when I try to turn the lid to get it back off, it is stuck to the pump housing and will not turn. I use a silicone based lube on the o-ring. What would be preventing the strainer cover from turning for removal? Could this be caused by the top of the pump housing--the area where the strainer cover slips into place--be too smooth or too rough? Would opening the pump drain that the basket sits in release pressure enough to allow the strainer cover to open?
I have contacted Hayward requesting help and have received none so far. I can't use my pool until I am able to remove and clean the strainer basket.
