    Default Pool Sand

Having A 15 X 30 Ag Installed This Weekend, Installed Said I Should Order 4 Tons Of Bar Sand. I Have Been Reading Online And The Charts I See Say I Should Use 5 Tons For A 15 X 30 Ag. Is 4 Tons Enough.

Sand is best measure in YARDS for coverage. I've never heard of it measured in tons.

A Yard: cubic yard is a mass of sand that's 3' x 3' x 3'. You can figure out how many yards you need by the surface you are covering and the depth of sand you need. Then add a yard to be sure.

I don't know what bar sand is, but mason's sand is really the best sand for a base--it's clean and even.

I'd GUESS 9 yards to a depth of 6"--but that's just to cover the 15x30 oval. I don't know how much sand beyond that. I'm assuming an above ground oval.

How deep of sand should there be? We were told 2" deep bottom plus cove sand 6" up side of pool and 4" deep, with an estimate of 5-6 yards for an 18x33 (with compacted leveled ground underneath) The pool directions called for 4-5 yards, but we were given an estimate of 5-6 by gravel company who has done pools. I am ordering in a week and better be sure when its $27 a yard for Masons.
    Beats driving to the lake!

Hi all, 3 yards on the 15 x 30, 5 for the 18 x 33. You may both have some left over. You want about a 2-3 inch base and 6 inch coves. Remember to pile the sand in the middle area of the pool. No closer than 3 foot from the bottom rail until you have the wall up and secure. Then spread it out.

    Best of luck, Dennis
