Actually, you have too much pump for your pool. A too powerful pump paired with a too small filter is a common problem we see a lot.
We have a 24 round AG vinyl pool with lower spot in the middle. 1 1/2 HP silica doughboy pump, 150# hayward filter. The flow from the return is so strong that it is difficult to vaccum pool (can't see bottom). We did not have this problem last year. My husband says no, of course, but I am wondering if he put the wrong return eye in pool. Are there different sizes? This is making a giant whirlpool in pool! Thanks for your input

HAD same filter and pump last summer and did not have this problem. What would happen if we removed the eye from the return?
Removing the eyeball would decrease the velocity and increase the flow somewhat and drop your pressure. The eyeball is a small restriction. Of course you would lose directional control. Wouldn't urt anything.
