    Default Pool turned cloudy

Thanks in advance for your help:

Last night, as is my custome, I turned off the filter one hour after adding 16oz of Bleach (clorine). Yesterday the pool was clear and tested ok for free clorine and the ph was good.

This morning I added (like a fool) Splash-less clorine (bleach) , the solar cover was on and I did not notice the condition of the water....I just assumed it was ok...1/2 hr later I tested and added another 16oz of the splash-less clorine(bleach)...up until this morning I had not used the splash-less type of Clorox bleach.

My wife came home from shopping and the 2 of us removed the solar cover and I was shocked to see how cloudy the water had become. I guess my question here is .... Is it possible that the splash-less bleach(Clorox) could have caused this problem? Thanks

Yes, some of the versions of Clorox have additives in them to "help" with laundry issues--but don't work so well in pools. Keep your filter running, and the cloudiness should filter out. I wouldn't use that type of bleach anymore though--stick with the generic, plain stuff.

    The Clorox Company
    1221 Broadway

    Tel. 1-510-271-7000

They're closed for today, but I'll try to check tomorrow. However they have a ingredient list posted, here
    http://www.clorox.com/products/cloro...ts-and-safety/
and after reading it, I can definitely say, "I wish you hadn't added that". The list looks more like laundry detergent with bleach, than bleach.

It's worth a call -- if it's like laundry detergent, we may need to think about draining your pool -- but Clorox has in the past had some pretty knowledgeable customer service people, so I wanna ask them before going further.

Other people have made the same mistake. You don't need to change the water. It will clear up within a week. Just chlorinate as usual or you can raise the FC to shock levels to try and clear it faster, but obviously use the right kind of bleach. Usually, the symptom is foaminess, but depending on how it gets mixed in your pool it can lead to cloudiness as well. See this post, this thread, and these posts as examples of others who have done the same thing.

Let's look on the bright side: it probably won't cause an algae bloom.
