Why did you use DE instead of sand in a sand filter? I'm not sure about the ramifications of that. I'll let someone else chime in here about this situation.
I just got my pool installed and and hooked up my 22" sand filter and an intex salt water chlorinator after it. I put 3 lbs. of stabilizer in the skimmer like the directions said too. I was afraid that the pump was starving for water and started to dig to where I could see some of the screen. I then noticed the stabilizer that was small enough to fit thru the skimmer screen made it all the way back to the pool. I used 2 boxes (50 lbs.) of D.E to fill my sand filter instead of using sand. Isn't the sand filter supposed to catch something as big as the stabilizer which is like the size of rock salt?

When you say stabilizer, do you mean cynuric acic (spelling?). Stabilizer is a powder. As far as using only DE in a sand filter, I think its like filling your car with diesel when you should have used gasoline. You can top off a sand filter with a 1/3 cup or so of de to enhance its filtration though, but you do need sand in a sand filter.
matcin2351,
i gave you an extensive answer to this very same question on the other forum that you have been posting problem in since you got your 27' above ground pool and started installing and setting it up yourself.
