Update to my plumbing problem.
After drawing out various plumbing configurations using a 3 way valve, I found that if I can:
(1) Connect the input port on the 3way valve to the overflow pipe,
(2) Connect the output port to the output of the pump
(3) Connect the pipe leading to the nozzle (jet) in the pool to the other outlet,
In one postion, water will flow to the nozzle (Jet) in the pool. In the other postion, water will flow from the jet in the pool to the overflow pipe.
This gives me the best of two worlds because the only time I am concerned about the pool overflowing is when we are on a trip or away from home.
My question concerns how I should pipe the 3 way valve. Considering the fact the pump output will connect to the output port on the 3 way valve, Will the valve stop the flow of water when I set the valve so that pool water will flow from the pool to the overflow stand pipe, the water from the pump is blocked at the output port of the 3 way valve with approximately 25 PSI. I am not certain the valve is designed to stop the flow of water entering an output port.
I noticed that the returns from the skimmer and pool drain enter a 3 way valve and flow toward the suction side of the pump which is attached to the imput side of the valve.
Bottom line question......Can I expect a 3 way valve to stop the flow of water from a pump when the pump is attached the output side of a 3 way valve? Bill
