Default HELP! Chlorine generator panel is broken - green pool

The panel on our chlorine generator for our salt water pool is out and the new one will not arrive until next week. In the meantime, our pool is green and yucky. My husband was told to put 8 bags of super shock in and chlorine tablets and continue to run the pump. Also to sweep like crazy. Do you concur with these instructions? I am stressed just looking at it. Is there anything else or different we need to do until the part is replaced to insure this doesn't have a ripple(no pun intended) affect on our pool?

Can you post a complete set of current water testing results preferably taken with a drops-based kit? That will make it easier for somebody here to advise you. Also, tell us the type and volume of the pool and what type of filter you have.
