    bigger filter means less cleaning- 36 is probably enough for 10k gallons, but 48 would give you an extra 1/3 time between clean/refill, pretty much...
    even with the bigger filter, I'd down size the pump- and consider a 2 speed run on low for filtering, only high for water fountains/etc and vacuuming-
    on low, consumes like 1/4 power but 1/2 water flow, so on low 2 hours filters as well (sometimes even better) than high for 1 hour, but less total power used to get it there!

    Ok thank you. I think I'll stick with the 36. And a two speed 1 HP will save electricity and pay for itself eventually.

    Other considerations for pump size would be if you also have a spa, water feature or anything else that might need higher flow rates. If not, then I agree with everyone else that you can go with the smallest pump possible.

    I'm hoping that a new pump will help eliminate my cloudy water problems. I've tried many things.
