    Default Pump and filter sizing

    Hi everyone,

Just want to make sure that I have adequate sized equipment.

10,000 gal fiberglass. 1.5 hp pump and 36 sq ft PE filter.

    Thanks

Thank you. Just a waste of electricity or could it cause problems.

the heat pump doesn't affect your pump, much- might slightly lower your water flow, which is probably a good thing in your case.
The pump and filter matchup is the concern- if you overdrive the filter, it won't work as well and you could get to much pressure and damage the filter if it gets to extreme.

Thank you. I'm considering buying a new filter. 48 sq ft DE. I have a Pentair 36 now, upgrade to a Pentair 48. I've always had cloudyness problems.

    Is this a sound decision?

Alternatively, maybe buy a 1 hp pump instead of a new filter? Pumps are cheaper and perhaps more likely to fail being the reasons.

Is 36 sq ft of DE (my current filter) adequate for a 10,000 gal in ground?

i can't advise you on the DE filter but I will tell you that for a 10K pool, you don't need a 1 hp pump. I have approx. 13K and I have a 1/2 hp full-rated inground pump on my AG pool and a 200 lb. sand filter and that pump is plenty big for my pool.

I'm checking with Pentair to see if they think my filtering capabilities are significantly decreased with my 1.5 pump. If so I will replace.

Thanks again everyone for your assistance.
