I am getting a lot of foam when my salt pool is generating. Is it my algaecide? Just switched from a linear quat to a polyquat algaecide. Should that solve my problem? Thanks!

My understanding is that there is commonly some appearance of foaming when the SWCG is running, but is actually air bubbles, but I also know that linear quat algaecides do commonly produce foaming. Switching to a polyquat may eventually solve the problem, but the agent in the linear quat that causes the foaming to begin with will first need to break down and be filtered out.
My question is why use the algaecide at all? Properly chlorinated pools do not need algaecides, and the algaecides create a pretty big chlorine demand--so if you're using both, they actually are working against each other. Many people use an algaecide when they have to keep their chlorine at negligible amounts, like when treating for staining, and some use it for closing in the winter, but why use it for regular algae control?

Sounds like good advice. Thanks.
