We have a 96,000 litre pool installed last year, so its my first time opening I picked up my Taylor test kit this week and thanks to all the great info on this sight, I think I'm getting the hang of things.
My readings after taking the cover off were
Temp 64F
FC=0
TC=0
CC=0
pH=7.9
TA=170
CH=380
CYA=30
The water seems very clear an no algae.
I put some acid to lower the pH, and through in a floater of chlorine tablets, and some stabilizer to increase CYA to 60 (per SWG recommendations)
I will be adding some chlorine shortly (still at least a week before temps are high enough to swim)
Last year, my SWG always drifted the pH to around 7.8-8 and I had some scaling on the walls.
I've been lowering TA using the method described in this sight.
Seems to be working and it is now at 120, pH 7.2.
Let me know if I really understand this.
I would like to lower TA to around 100, so that with CH=380, I get a pH of saturation within 0.5 of my actual pH.
Do I use the current pH and temperature (64F, and 7,2) to determine how far to lower TA, or do I use anticipated summer values (80F, 7.8) or am I out of my league for a newbie?
